Lady Redskins Picking up Steam

The Lady Redskins softball team is simply having a good season. Although it hasn’t been perfect, they do have a record of 20 wins and 7 losses thus far on the season.

Additionally, the Lady Redskins will host Union City and Empire for district play, which will be September 22-24..

Monday night, which was Senior Night, the Lady Redskins were a little slow to put ideas of victory out of the heads of the Alex Lady Longhorns.  The Lady Redskins led 1-0 for several innings until closing the game in the 4th inning with a final score of 10-0. Paytn Tate, Crabb, Caveness, Brady, Ball and Clark each drove in runs during the final inning. Layla Miller and Brady had singles, Tate and Ball had doubles, Clark a sacrifice fly, Caveness a groundout and an error on a ball put in play by Crabb. Pitcher Lillyan Ball pitched a shut out in Monday’s game against the Lady Longhorns. Ball allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings ,striking out five and walking none.

On the season, the Ladies are hitting well and playing good defense. These girls play as a team and show tremendous support for each other. Leading batting averages are: Shelbie Caveness – .525, Lillyan Ball – .473, Kimberly Fox – .434, Myka Brady – .415 and Katelyn Fox .39.

Katelyn Fox leads the team with 31 RBI’s, followed by sister Kimberly Fox with 27, Caveness and Brady have 20 each, Ball and McKayla Clark have 17 a piece and Nicki Crabb has 15.

Caveness and Brady lead the way with 37 runs scored each. Kim Fox has 28, Kate Fox 22, Crabb and Clark both have 18, Kennedi Snyder has 12 and Ball 11.

Brady leads the team in stolen bases with 22 and Caveness and Kim Fox each have 17.

The Lady Redskins were runner ups last week in tournament play, getting beat by Hollis 6-3 in the finals. The final game was the third game of the day for the Lady Redskins.
